Bittersweet Fare

My eyes fill shut with stray memories
And sleep slips out like a tear
Your laughter dances like moonlit dust
Around my carven ears

I feel no weight on my outstretch'd arm
Nor the softness of your cheek
My breath trips out haltingly
In search of the lips it seeks

Dreams! Ah Dreams! They prance about
In sounds and song and hues
But there is no sleep in the silent keep
Save the whispers of patient eyes

While I am here, and you yearn there
I shall live out this bittersweet fare
And to pass the night of every day
I shall lie and wait it away

Lover's Bloom

To what can I, your beauty compare
For even if it be my duty, do I dare
Talk of dawn's glory and it's riotous rays
And give verse to each color, a word to each shade...

Morrow's dawn shall be beauty begun
And my rhyme would be spent, with not a letter
to spare...

And yet, I paint my words anew
To cup a facet, to draught a hue
For 'tis true, I am a lover contraire
I brought home the prize, 'fore leaving to the fair

Of all things beautiful, and worth a seaman's song
I liken you to a flower, o'er the bed of night
For even as you sleep does your beauty come awake
Like the colors of dusk over a mountain lake

Snowlike petals taste moonshine's kiss
And the fragrance scents the quiet
A drop of the nighttime's drink lingers
On your lips like the dew of the morn

Forever is it's beauty, not a fleeting dream
Though this night be it's first and last
For it wears such white, it colours the night
With hope of a golden dawn

So too are you eternally
beautiful to mine eyes
Though time may carve new facets
And life, new masks apply

A son’s Lullaby

Sleep, little star who birthed the skies
And filled it with the blush of dawn
Sleep like sweetness in a dreaming bud
Afloat within the stillness of the eyes

Sleep little bird that birthed flight
And flew twinkling dreams into the night
Sleep like the bough in the shade of the moon
As the wind breathes dark and lonesome tunes

Sleep little stream, who birthed the sea
And kissed it with drops of mystery
Sleep little pearl in the ocean’s womb
As the blue-white waves live your fantasies

Sleep dear mother, who birthed two sons
And was born anew at the break of day
Sleep like your sons slept in your womb
As you hummed an ancient songless tune

Something About Something

Bear with me for a while. This is just a ramble. A bunch of thoughts that are better off out of the way of more to come.

There is no literary value to this piece, and there is a higher probabilty you will not enjoy reading it. Read on if you're still curious. Or skip it now.

Language has...No. I meant speech is....No. That's not what I was saying either....

...What's the word for it? you know, those things you use to make another person see the world the way you do?

Ah! I have it. Words.

Words. I have always been intrigued by words. I don't think I will ever understand how to use them the way others usually do.

I know, I know, everyone has their own way of using words. But there's this general fear or respect or love towards these things, whenever they're used. All I can feel, is incredulity.

You see, I don't understand how words work. At least, they don't work that way with me, so I'm not sure. The same words that were offensive at one time are used in completely normal parlance now. And I wondered both at the feeling of offense and at the normalcy they have gained over time.

But the strangest thing about words? The more words I know, the more sparingly I can use them.

I find that to everything I am about to say, every opinion I construct in my mind with the words I have, has a counter opinion, an opposite viewpoint.

What I think is wrong is somehow right to a different set of eyes, or in a larger perspective. I think words have no absolutes. Try 'giving' words to something absolute, and it stops being so.

Throw a statement at yourself that you think is impossible to refute. And very soon, you will argue with yourself, and refute it.
Now here's an absolute statement : Maybe.

No matter how much you know. You will only know something about something.

Forgive My Lips

I was strolling through my thoughts,
They were a sunny, cobbled place
Where impish ideas fluttered by
And a smile shone on my face

My eyes, like a beloved's day dream
Were mellow, moist and in a snooze
When they tripped upon your lips
And awoke from dream to a dream

And into that cobbled place
That was sunny and yellow and neat
They let in the colors of dusk
The blush of embers and wine replete

And as I strolled through thoughts
All bashful in embrace
I stepped suddenly into waters
Of surprise - a vision, a grace!

...Forgive my lips, they find joy
In the most unusual places
I was outed from my thoughts
And lost memory of familiar faces

The taste of sweet innocence
And the mint of tingles unveiled
Mingled with the spice of secrets
Hesitantly revealed...

Forgive my lips, they find joy
In the most unusual places
In lips like red, velvet skies
Like wine in hidden cases

THE MAN AND HIS SEA

There was once a wayfarer
Who fell in love with the sea
To him she was rhythm
An unending reverie

He would stand upon a rock
Hugged by the fluid sand
And tales of a thousand waves
Would rise to kiss his hand

He loved her raging silence
He loved her every hue
He loved with such freedom
That the sea loved him too

Her love was ceaseless motion
A storm in every drop
Time locked in a surging wave
'twas space in her timeless deep

From the shores would come his summoning
The quiet of his eyes aflare
The nudge of his toes in her trembling sands
His breath that would kiss the air

That kiss would waft with the fusioned haste
Of the breeze and the blushing rays
And would sink weightless to her waiting depths
Like the touch of a loving gaze

One kiss to fill her being
To set her dark aglow
One kiss to set her heaving
With passions high and low

She would swirl through the sands
Of distant shores
And smother faraway lands
Yet, her roar would turn to a whisper
As she'd come to where he stands

He'd watch with drunken eyes
And she would curve into bashful waves
He would watch till the stars would gather
And romp in her moonlit caves

Not once had he touched her waters
And yet he knew her well
He'd smile with amused knowing
At her eager hesitant swell

One day the sea sighed
And darkened the graying sky
I know not this tale's beginning
But that day it's end was nigh

Neither joy nor sorrows embrace
Would bring this saga's end
To the ground of sedate thinking
That the heart wouldn't dare transcend

He stood 'pon yonder cliff
Like the silence of glorious death
Was it the wind that chiffed at the horizons
Or the force that was freed in his breath

His hands spread wide to hug the sky
He walk'd till the end of stone
The sheath of his soul fell like a dream
Of the night into which it was thrown

He rose as the spirit of higher skies
And flew like fantasy's wind
He merged with the sea, her waves and her tides
Like the colors of dawn's horizon

Blessed be the love of the man his sea
Blessed this eternal union
Blessed be this tale of nature's symphony
Where the sea and her man were one.

THE 'GEEK' IS HERE

(5070 A.d.) Encyclopedia Galactica: 'GEEK': A geek was an intermediary species, said to exist between the late 20th and the early 21st centuries. They were the transition between homo sapiens and the homo-technologius of today.

Everyday, the world is squeezed into smaller proportions by man's inventive genius and his desire to reach out, to know, and to be constantly entertained. We have learnt to satiate this desire so extensively, that the-world-as-it-used-to-be is being replaced by an 'amplified, extended' world, faster than we can ever realise. To put it like you'd understand it, the future has arrived, while the present is still putting on its boots to leave.

And the future has brought with it, the 'geek', a whole new species and a general demographic community that's spread all over the electronic world; a race that smashes the nerd and the cool dude together and binds them in floor-sweeping jeans and spiked hair, with a pair of bass pumping earphones.

'Technology is fun', could be his mantra, as he jerks along, gyrating to his music, and replacing the old gadget (time has got nothing to do with this. any new release makes the previous one obsolete) with the latest gizmo to hit the stores. Gadgets are his marbles, that he buys, trades, toys with, replaces, swaps and loses.

If you're not a geek, then you're bound to look at the guy's fancy fingerwork - as he clicks, uploads, messages, calls and mails in 10 seconds flat - as something akin to magic. This is very much like how early man looked at the first guy who learnt to use a sharp rock. And as he reels out the configurations of his latest laptop, the processing speed of his palmtop and the networking capabilities of his GPRS enabled, EDGE, HSDPS AND WiFi packed cellphone, all you do is look at him, wondering whether he's saying that it's a good gadget or swearing backwards in swahili really fast.

But there's good news and there's bad news. The bad news is, the number of these new age marbles, is on the rise. you'll soon have a gadget for everything that actually looks cool, while it does its job. Even if its a back scratcher, it'll have the usual metallic carbon finish and will be signed by a cricketer. So if you think you can survive by staying away from them, you're probably right, but you'll still be living behind times, and that's no fun, most of the time. Bottomline, if you're not atleast partly a geek, you'll soon be a nobody.

But here's the good news; The geeks, as a separate species is going extinct. ['Probably the only mass species extinction that has nothing to do with global warming. ' - Encyclopedia galactica]. Humans have always moulded themselves to closely resemble the coolest dude. Basically that's what Darwin was trying to say in his huge pillow of a book. And today the coolest dude is the 'geek', and that's where humanity is headed, egged on by their need for faster internet, better pictures and more words. So before you know it, we're going to be called 'geeks' as a species. And then we'll start wearing technology inside us, instead of all over.

For now though, adopting 'geekism' is not actually a difficult thing, nor do you have to stop being your radical, down-to-earth, non-technical, I-hate-computers-but-I'm-still-successful self. It just takes a little bit of curiosity about how the things that work for you actually work. Oh, and you can check out my blog.
