Simple Love

Like a breath of mountain air
Or a drink in a clear spring
Like the sound of a distant bell
Like hearing a cuckoo sing

Amidst a thousand noises
Like a silent prayer's sigh
I saw you smile in greeting
As the world passed me by

I'd like to wax eloquent
And speak in timbred tones
I'd love to tailor language
To a charming monotone

I'd love to talk of fragrant wines
And conjure philosophy
I'd love to narrate extempore
And cough importantly

But I'd rather speak of simple things
Like how your dimple curves,
Of love, that needs just a word or two
And which my language serves

I'd rather point to the stars in the sky
As I clasp your hand in mine
And hear you laugh as I tell you tales
Of a turkish caravanserai

(Oh that laugh, that golden joy
Like rainbows and clouds in fray
Oh that sound of tinkling bells
That coolest of seashore sprays)

'Tis a simple thing, to fall in love
And rise each day like the sun
And all you know is to give, and to smile
And each moment, is a life begun!
